Climbing in the Karwendel Mounatins - DAS KRONTHALER****S

Climbers Paradise Rofan and Karwendel mountains

The two mountain ranges, the Rofan and the Karwendel mountains, have long become favourite spots with climbers, since the range on offer speaks for itself – from Alpine classics, to state-of-the-art via ferrata routes, there are countless opportunities for climbing around Achensee.
With around 250 sport climbing routes, eight via ferratas, numerous Alpine classics and a a forest high ropes garden in Achenkirch the region of Achensee sets high standards in the sport of climbing.
Climbing in the Rofan. There is scarcely any other mountain range in Tirol which offers more extremes than the Rofan mountains, which are embedded between the Wilder Kaiser and Achensee. Gentle, lush green meadows on the south side are replaced with the rugged, up to 400 metre high north-facing cliff faces of the Rosskopf and the Seekarlspitze. Even legends such as Hermann Buhl made their first ascents on these cliff faces. The infrastructure has been considerably expanded upon in the last few years. Numerous sports climbing areas and the unique Achensee 5 Peak Via Ferrata, which runs over the five main peaks in the Rofan mountains, have been developed.

Climbing in the Karwendel

The Karwendel provides dreamy cliffs and an Alpine ambiance. The climbing areas around the Lamsenspitze and the Alpine lodge of the same name are particularly well-known. Anyone who wants to climb here will find countless Alpine tours and moderate Alpine sports climbing routes on offer. Some of the classic routes have been redeveloped. You can scale the 2508 metre Lamsenspitze via the “Brudertunnel”, an Alpine via ferrata.
